With over 20 years of experience in Higher Education at a TEF-Gold-rated Institution, I can support course development and contribute to revalidation and Quality Assurance processes related to Health Professions courses. I have undertaken roles in admissions and course leadership and have navigated the pivot to online and hybrid patterns of delivery during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.
I have been a Chartered Physiotherapist for nearly 30 years, specialising in respiratory and palliative care, and delivering Physiotherapy education across a range of levels. I am a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) and a Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registrant.
I have 5 years of experience undertaking a leadership role as School Director of International Student Experience, supporting and developing the journey of international students across a range of courses from recruitment to alumni. In this role, I was lucky enough to support students from all over the world in both their academic and pastoral development, focusing on the importance of developing a sense of belonging from the very start of their time at University. This has given me an understanding of the additional personal and cultural challenges international students overcome to be successful.
From course revalidation to peer review, internal and external examiner processes, I have a range of quality assurance experience that is relevant to professional bodies and regulators.
My PhD was completed at Lancaster University in 2017, when I investigated the experiences and perceptions of healthcare staff supporting people with COPD at the end of life in acute hospital settings. I am affiliate supervisor to PhD students at the University of Huddersfield, supporting their research and development across a range of health and education-related topics. I also act as occasional reviewer for the journals Palliative Medicine and the International Journal of Therapy and Rehabilitation.
As a person with Type 1 diabetes and living with cancer, I have valuable service-user perspectives to bring to any education, quality assurance and research I undertake.
