Therapy and Wellness

Overview

I have been a Chartered Physiotherapist for 30 years, with professional expertise in respiratory and palliative care. I can help support your wellbeing and develop your personal goals, whatever level of function you are working at.

I have enhanced DBS clearance and am fully accredited and insured with the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and the Health and Care Professions Council: check the register here.

Therapy

Do you experience breathlessness or feel out of breath doing simple task? As a respiratory specialist physiotherapist, I have broad experience of a range of conditions, including:

  • COPD
  • Asthma
  • Bronchiectasis
  • Hyperventilation and breathing pattern disorders
  • Breathwork to help with anxiety or stress or for more general wellbeing
  • Post- surgery or critical care
  • Cancer rehabilitation
  • Long COVID

I can support people in improving their general health and fitness, through breathing-focused techniques, support with sputum clearance, functional exercise, education and advice. Some of your needs may overlap with the wellness goals outlined below: I will tailor therapy to your needs.

Wellness

Do you have things you know you want to achieve, yet you feel stuck in making any progress? In wellness coaching, I can help you to set meaningful, achievable and realistic goals supporting your health and wellbeing, and we can work together to achieve them.

Remember that the concept of health is more than just an absence of illness, but influences all aspects of our lives, including physical activity, nutrition, occupation, spirituality, mental health and much more. Therefore, goal-setting can be equally broad and might be directly related to health goals, motivation and physical activity, embracing new hobbies or revisiting old pastimes to help you to be a happier and healthier version of you. Breathwork for anxiety is a particular field which spans both areas and is an increasingly important aspect of this type of work.

Session structure

Firstly, it is helpful to have a short telephone conversation to start the process and arrange our initial session. There is no charge for this initial call. For therapy sessions we will generally meet at your home, or at another convenient and private space to your liking. You are welcome to have a family member be with you, especially when we first meet.

Initial appointments are 60 minutes, where we will have time to get to know one another and I can conduct a full assessment, understanding your needs and working with you to set your personal goals. Afterwards, you will receive a summary of the session and a copy of these goals via email.

Follow-up sessions are agreed in advance as either weekly or fortnightly, and these are generally 40 minutes in length, unless we have pre-agreed a longer session to accommodate your needs. There is no set number of sessions, as this will vary according to your needs and preferences, but it is helpful to review progress on achieving your goals on at least two follow-up sessions. I offer a 10% discount for blocks of four follow-up sessions.

Generally, appointments are Tuesday - Thursday afternoons, but if these are not convenient please email as most weeks I can be flexible. If a Saturday visit is the only option, there will be an additional10% charge.
